Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SCANDINAVIAN WAVELENGTHS • Sweden, Norway and Finland have agreed upon a common system for the transmission of data by radio.

The system, called Mobitex, has been on trial in Sweden since October 1986 and is the world's first public radio telecommunication network for text, data and voice.

The system is likely to prove very popular among Scandinavian truck opertors because it allows drivers to keep in contact with their main depot, using the radio to transmit spoken and written information. It is predicted that there will be 40,000 mobile data terminals in operation in Scandinavia by 1990, rising to 160,000 five years later.

• Meanwhile a British company, Portable Data Communications, has launched a facsimile machine which can be linked to a cellular radio and placed in-cab. The system costs around £3,400 including fitting. Phone PDC on (0276) 691090 for details.
