• A survey of bus accidents in West Yorkshire during the seven months since deregulation shows a 12% increase in casualties.

In Wakefield there has been a 78% increase in injuries, while in Calderdale there has been an 18% fall. Councillor Michael Simmons, chairman of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority and of the public transport committee of the Association of Metropolitan Authorities, says the PTA will work with the AMA to establish whether there is any evidence of a national upward trend in bus accidents.
