ALEYLAND 90 with a 585 cu. It-capacity, coachbuilt, light alloy body will be introduced by Gilbraith Commercials Ltd., 1-1-■ [album Road, Accrington, Lanes, on Stand 75 at the Royal Lancashire Show, Blackpool, July 27 to 29. By substituting a deeper, straight windscreen for the standard curved version on this model, Gilbraith have increased vision vertically and achieved ease of entrance, gaining about 9 in. with 3 ft. Pin. sliding doors which are tin. thick.
The offside step is a standard fitment because the brake positioning precludes any variation, hut it has been possible to build up the nearside step to approximately 7 It. by 1 ft. 6 in. ..Workshop needs are fully appreciated in the provision of removable panels for access to the engine and a trapdoor to the gearbox.
The exhibition 'model has an alloy roof but the standard production roof will be in reinforced plastics. Delivery period is eight weeks and the price of the body is £395, which added to a chassis price' of £885, heater f_17 10s. and screen washer £3. makes a total of £1,300 10s.
The standard rear door is a roller shutter, hut an alternative can be arranged as an extra, as can a bulkhead and interior sliding door and a passenger seat. Mecalluid hand-operated chassis lubrication is another extra at £35. Under consideration is an adaptation so that the van can be used for the carriage of passengers.
Gilbraith plan an interesting use for their prototype model; it will be stocked
with Leyland Albion and •Scammell spares and used as a mobile shop, regular weekly calls on clients in a selected territory being planned. This will supplement the normal emergency, spares service. If successful more vehicles will he put on to make weekly calls on all Gilbraith customers.
