Expressions of satisfaction have been made by A.R.O, concerning the efforts of the Parliamentary Road Group in combating the container clause in the Finance Bill. The Association pays tribute to the work of the group, and especially to Capt. Strickland, the secretary, for his work on behalf of the industry.

There is no doubt that the submissions made to the Minister of Transport by the recent deputation were of the utmost value, and the result is a happy augury for the future of the revived Operators Committee of the B.R.F.

A.R.O. Leader at Road Inquiry.

Mr. J. A. M. Bright, of Selby, chair man of the Yorkshire Area of A.R.O. was among those who made submis sions at a Ministry of Transport inquiry held at Selby, last Friday, with reference to the proposal to construct a by-pass road with a new bridge over the River Ouse, near Selby.

Mr. Bright remarked that if the present toll bridge over the Ouse at Selby were freed and no by-pass road and bridge were constructed to ease the pressure on the road through Selby, the town would be one of the most dangerous traffic spots in the kingdom. He supported the suggestion of the Automobile Association and the Royal Automobile Club that the new bridge should be of a type which would not have to be opened for the passage of shipping on the Ouse.

Removers Support Baillie Report.

A resolution supporting the Baillie report has been passed by the Joint Industrial Council for the furniture warehousing and removing industry. The resolution urges the necessity of early legislation to give effect to the wages committee's recommendations.

The council presses for an opportunity of expressing its views when the statute is being drafted. A copy of this resolution •is being sent to the Ministries of Labour and Transport, and to the National Joint Conciliation Board.

C.M.U.A. Call to Stockport Operators.

An address on the aims and work of the C.M.U.A. is to be given by Mr. J. L. Kinder, national organizer, at the White Lion Hotel, Unelerbank, Stockport, on Monday next (July 26), at 7.45 p.m. The meeting is being arranged by the Manchester Area. Mr. E. F Topham, area chairman, will preside.

Yorkshire Members of Parliame met a deputation of C.M.U.A. MC3 bers, on Wednesday. The deputati. was introduced by Mr. F. G. Bristo the Association's general secretary, a: the principal speaker was Mr. Jau France, chairman of the North-Easte Division.
