Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

:enault Trucks is part of a select group of three companies that offer perators a full range of vehicles from 2.8 tonnes through to 44 mnes. Urban distribution at 18 tonnes is one of the toughest mnsport sectors, with the French boldly claiming the Midlum can ffer industry-leading payload potential without harming its torqueased performance. Kevin Swallow checks it out.

The arrival of the lightweight Midlum ;tributon truck in 1999 plugged the last ace in Renault Trucks' CV line-up. The dlum is divided between the 7.5 to 14 nne GVW bracket and 16 to 18 tonnes. The ciCi common rail 618-litre injecin engine powers the latter at 220 or Ohp, with a choice of 11 wheelbases nging from 4.5 to 9.4m. With a 7.1-tonne )nt-axle load, Renault advertises itential body/payload from 13 tonnes. Although it clashes with the larger .emium entry-level 18-tonne model, the

Midlum 18-tonner is smaller, lighter and more manoeuvrable making it more adept at multi-drop urban distribution rather than long distance. The operator gets a choice of day cab, as our truck has, or Global cab—as well as the passenger 'vision' door to counteract the blind spot in front of the nearside wheel.

The Midlum 18-tonne truck is fitted with the Eaton six-speed synchromesh gearbox. It has disc brakes at every corner, with ABS as standard, an air-operated engine exhaust brake and cruise control. Boalloy built the curtainside body and there is a fixed-air deflector on the cab.
