Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

From John Moon, Amsterdam VESTERDAY the doors opened on one

of the brightest and most international collections of commercial vehicles to have been seen in many a year, in the magnificent new R.A.I. building in Amsterdam. The first Dutch Commercial Motor Show since 1959, this year's exhibition is also the biggest to have been held in Holland, there being no fewer than 224 exhibitors. Over 100 commercial vehicle and body manufacturers arc represented, including 15 British, and brand new exhibits include the DA V 2600 heavy chassis •(as illustrated on this page), the Leyland-Holland normal-control Meteoor chassis, two Thames Trader normal-control types, the Austin Moke cross-country machine based on the B.M.C. mini-cars, and a Volvo 4.7-litre diesel engine with Holset turbocharger, blowers for this make having been adopted now by DAF also. Another power-unit innovation is the Austin 250 h.p. industrial gas turbine, the appearance of which here makes one wonder whether B.M.C. have automotive applications in mind.

The coachwork exhibits also are of great interest. There are several new cabs to be seen, including the luxurious DAF design developed for the 260 range, a glass-fibre sleeper cab on a ScaniaVabis chassis, the Leyland-Holland normal-control Meteoor cab and, of course, the new Trader cab.

Well-finished and smartly styled buses and coaches abound and several of these have British chassis or .running units, A.E.C., Guy and Leyland being represented in this field. Numerous trailers and semi-trailers and municipal vehicles are also displayed.

• The 1962RA.1. show closes on Sunday, March 4, and I feel sure that by then it' will have been rated as one of the most successful European shows since the war. With exhibitors here from 11 countries it provides a valuable oppor"ttinity for studying world-wide -design -trends. A fully illustrated report will be published in The Commercial Motor next week.
