WE regret to record the deaths of Mr. T. W. Atkinson, Mr. W. Berry, Mr. G. W. Haines and Mr. W. A. Timpson.

Councillor Atkinson had been chairman of Sunderland Corporation Transport Committee since 1953. He was 68.

Mr. Berry, who died at Halifax, was a member of the staff of the Halifax Passenger Transport Department for 50 years arid was commercial assistant responsible for buying for 30 years. He was 72.

Mr. Haines was a bus proprietor at Newbold Verdon, Leics., for 25 years, He was 80.

Mr. Timpson, who was 58, joined his father, Mr. A. Timpson, in the family business in 1918. and was general manager of A. Timpson and Sons, Ltd., from 1944 until 1954, when ill-health caused him to relinquish • this appointment.

STAFF SHORTAGE

OXFORD buses are seriously short of staff, and unless the situation improves city services will be badly affected. Mr. T. P. Sheridan, general manager of the City of Oxford Motor Services, Ltd., said last week that staff was down by 36 drivel's and• 30 conductors.
