Scania has dropped its eight-litre engine so its lightest truck is now powered by a turbocharged nine-litre straight-six. We followed one such vehicle, a 93.210, belonging to Metaltex through its first M service. This is the middle of three levels of service (the shorter being S and the longer L) with standard times for the three-including inspection—of 2.5, 4.0 and 7.5 hours. The sequence of servicing is S,M,S,L.

Servicing intervals on long haul are set at 45,000km with long-drain engine oil but these come down to 40,000km on inter-urban work.

Paul Grimes of City Trucks in Milton Keynes carried out the service. He has been working on Scanias for the past five years and made many visits to the manufacturer's training department which is only a stone's throw away.

Parts used (list ex-VAT): sump plug seal £0.55, fuel filters (x2) £3.05 each. pre-filter £1.69, oil spinner seals £3.24, turbo oil filter £3.70, water filter £16.50, desiccant filter £44.00.
