Handy Trucks for Workshops.

In most engineering workshops trucks arc utilized to facilitate the conveyance of rough material and finished parts to and from the various departments. It is not always practicable to lay down special rail tracks on which to run the conveyors on account of the additional cost involved. Moreover, in congested shops this principle cannot always be carried out to advantage.

A number of well-designed trucks are made by H. C. Slingsby, 142-14a Old Street, London, E.C., For use in workshops, and which prove particularly advantageous in congested gangways. In many factories where the machinery is crowded and extensions are unobtainable, the trucks are particularly useful, inasmuch as they can be easily manipulated. One of our illustrations shows the special method of mounting the wheels, two of which arc free to slide laterally en thea7 spindles. This principle allows the truck easily to be manceuvred in a restricted space, even though fully loaded. The other illustration shows a truck fitted with a drop side. A type which is particularly useful for carrying tubes and bar is the tip-up tray truck.

C. Slingsby has had a number of years' experience in the manufacture of trucks, and his workshops are well equipped for the turning out of all types and sizes of this class of conveyor. New and Cheaper Tracing Cloths.

The expenses incurred by drawing offices in the matter of tracing cloth are in many cases very high. Several attempts have been made in the past to produce a reasonably-priced cloth, but probably owing to the limited number of manufacturers of this material the prices have been maintained at a high figure.

It will interest engineers and others who use this speciality to hear that B. J. Hall and Co., Ltd., is now marketing a number of cloths of British production, which are moderate in price and which it is claimed are equal in quality to the many expensive brands of tracing cloth on the market.

L. and P. "Baldur" Suspension Springs.

It is readily admitted by the chassis builder that the suspension of an industfal vehicle is a problem of the utmost importance, and it is becoming fully realized that a correctly designed and constructed spring has considerable bearing upon the life or a Ch11:3S113.

The makers of "Baldur' springs. Luln and Pulvermacher, for whom the Imperial Motor Industries, Ltd., 11, Denmark Street, Charing Cross Road, London, W.C., is the wholesale agent, claim that its product combines in it all the advantages of a really good spring.

The " Baldur " spring is the result of many years experience ; it is constructed of best crucible steel. possessing the highest qualities and treated to give lasting elacticity with the utmost reliability. The quality of the steel and the particular treatment it undergoes entirely eliminate all possibility of failure through defective hardening, and the makers therefore guarantee that under no ordinary circumstances will a spring or single plate break.

It is also claimed that the use of shock absorbers is rendered unnecessary when this class of spring is fitted.

This concern turns out all kinds of elliptic springs, and the fact that a large number of Continental chassis manufacturers are embodying " Baldur" suspension springs in their designs affords ample proof of the all-round reliability of this particular production.
