Cravens Homalloy (Preston), Craven Industries Sales Ltd, Anna Valley, Andover, Hants.

Two models, the Taskvan and the Tasktip are exhibited on this stand. The 2660 cu ft capacity van, an integral construction boxvan semi-trailer, is plated at 32 tons gross trailer weight. It has 40ft exterior length; interior width is 7ft — wide enough for two metric pallets to be stacked side by side.

Features of the body include high-tensile steel top-hat section side wall pillars and top and bottom rails. The pressed steel sheet roof incorporates upstanding transverse corrugations and is continuously welded to the top rails to give a construction, free of roof bows, and also weatherproof.

Running gear is a ROR widespread tandem axle monoleaf spring suspension with 22,500lb capacity axles and Michelin 10.00-20.00 tyres. The bogie is plated at 20 tons. The full-width rubbing plate has dual-folding kingpins fitted 2.5ft and 3.5ft from the front end. The van has a dual 12V /24V electrical system, two-speed landing legs, and three-line air-pressure braking equipment.

The Tasktip is an all-welded aluminium tipping body mounted on a Taskers tipping semi-trailer chassis which features the Taskalastic rubber-tandem-axle suspension.

The 28ft-long body has a capacity of 37 cu yd and features a floor to side wall radius 'formed from a special extrusions assembly to facilitate load discharge.

. The two-member chassis frame is constructed from fabricated l-beams 19in. deep by 4in. wide and is braced with tubular cross-members. The rubbing plate is welded to the main frame and shaped at the leading edge for easier coupling.

The Taskalastic rubber-suspension bogie utilizes ROR 20,000lb axles and Goodyear 18.00 —22.5 Super Single tyres. The bogie is plated to 18 tons and gross trailer weight is 28 tons.

The suspension unit consists of four bonded rubber Metalastik chevrons mounted in pairs to form a wedge location in the centre of two I-section underslung articulated beams. Axle movement is controlled by triangulated radius arms with bushes formed as spherical joints bonded in rubber to give a lubrication-free suspension.
