• Danish-owned freight forwarder DanTransport (UK) has more than doubled in size with the acquisition of Croydonbased Inter Forward Freight Services. Inter Forward, which was formed three years ago by the merger of Norfreight and Zuest & Bachmeier, had an annual turnover of around £23m and ran a fleet of 400 trailers. According to a DanTransport spokeswoman, most of the 160 Inter Forward employees have been retained although a few administrative jobs have been lost in areas where there is duplication.
The acquisition, which was approved by the EU Commission in June, takes DanTransport's head count in the UK to almost 300 employees based at 10 sites with a fleet of around 1,000 trailers. The company specialises in road, sea and air freight forwarding to and from the Continent, the Far East, Africa and the US.
The Danish holding company employs more than 4,000 people around the world and has a group turnover of around £700m. During the past 10 years the company has made a series of acquisitions in the US, Scandinavia and the UK—but a spokeswoman says there are no immediate plans for any further UK acquisitions.
