• Lorry tax ation, cabotage and the EC's plans for trans port infrastruc ture will dominate the EC transport ministers' agenda at next Monday's meeting (19 Oct) in Luxembourg.
Germany is not expected to withdraw its objection to cabotage until the taxation issue shows signs of being settled. Other points to be discussed will be the transit agreements with Austria and Switzerland, and negotiations for a transit agreement with the newly independent Republic of Slovenia.
CI Italian hauliers may lose tax credits based on fuel and oil consumption, which can be worth up to £1,900 a year per vehicle. The Commission is to challenge the system in the European Court of Justice.
