• Truck drivers have voted the Haldon Chalet at Kennford, near Exeter as the truckstop with the best cuppa in a competition run by the Tea Council and the Milk Marketing Board.
No appeal
• The RSPCA is unlikely to appeal against last week's High Court decision which refused to suspend the export of live sheep to France. Instead, it will concentrate on its campaign to raise standards of livestock transport throughout Europe.
Blunt message
• Haulier Mike Blunt, who had his cab set on fire in the recent Spanish truck drivers' dispute, will join a party from Owner Operators UK which will put the case for compensation to the European Parliament transport committee in Brussels on Monday.
Fontaine's fifth
• US fifth-wheel manufacturer Fontaine is setting up a UK company in Poole. It will be headed by Ray Bryan, formerly of Abal Engineering.
Italy's on ill Italian hauliers have called off the strike they had threatened this week following talks with their government.
Dery drops
• Texaco and Mobil dropped their diesel pump prices by 1p this week, to 43.9p/ lit, and fuel analyst Oil Price Assessment expects other major oil companies to follow suit.
