Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Overhead Platform and Workshop

CH1EF advantage offered by the new Overseer hydraulic platform is that its construction allows the body of the vehicle on which it is mounted to be used as a workshop with large storage facilities. Alternatively, the vehicle can be used for normal purposes. Three models are available, giving working heights of 27 ft., 33 ft. and 38 ft., and maximum overhang is obtainable at all heights.

The platform is raised by the movement of a parallelogrammic structure powered by a hydraulic ram. It is rotated by a removable key which has a square, tapered head at its base, this being placed in a female counterpart under the platform. Light pressure on this key enables the turntable gear wheel to be engaged or disengaged in either direction. Engagement is spring-loaded as a safety measure, ensuring that the platform cannot be left accidentally without locking.

When prolonged operations are necessary on the platform, the power take-off can be stopped, when the tower is locked in Position mechanically. This device also offers protection against the collapse of the platform in the event of a hydraulic failure.

Access to the platform is by a ladder hinged to the elevating structure; it extends with the operation of the hydraulics. Quick-acting mechanical outrigger jacks for stabilizing the vehicle are fitted.

.Remote platform controls can be provided, but they are normally situated at the bottom of the upper access ladder on top of the workshop. A 4-ft. detachable extension can be fitted to Standard and Major models. Makers of the Overseer are Anderston Clyde (Engineers), Ltd.. Cart bridge Works, Busby, Glasgow.

New Pallet Transporter rAF light tubular construction with a special centre-guide channel imparting side stability to the carriage, a,handoperated pallet transporter known as the Forager is being produced by A. Hirst and Son, Ltd., Crescent Works, Meadow Lane, Dewsbury, Yorks.. The machine has an overall length of 3 ft. 9 in. and is 3 ft. 8 in, wide, whilst the width inside the arms is 3 ft. 2 in. A lift of 34 in. is provided.

The lifting carriage is supported on sealed bail-bearing rollers and is operated hydraulically. Centres of the 27-in.-long forks are adjustable from 6 in. to 21 in. A tricycle wheel arrangement is employed.

2-ton Loading Shovel PRODUCED earlier this year, but not previously announced, the 10H mobile loading shovel manufactured by F. E. Weatherill, Ltd., Tewin Road, Welwyn Garden City, Herts, is believed to be the largest machine of its kind made in this country. The appliance has a loading capacity of 2 tons and is available with scoop sizes ranging from 14-3 cu. yd.

B16 Powered by a 58 b.h.p. oil engine, the 101ff is driven by the large front wheels and steered by the rear wheels, which carry 10.50-16-in. tyres. Front tyres are 14.00-24 in.

Power-assisted steering is fitted as standard, and there is a patented scoop crowd action which provides automatic or operator-controlled crowding to suit the circumstances of a particular job. This con trol system also permits automatic levelling of the scoop before beginning a fresh loading cycle.

The hydraulic system has a working pressure of 1,000 p.s.i. and provides a break-away force of 4 tons, whilst the crowding angle is 330. The maximum height at which discharge can be effected is Il ft., with a reach of 5 ft. 2 in. The scoop width over the toe plate is 6 ft. 8 in. Unladen weight of the machine, which has an overall length of 18 ft. 3 in., is 9 tons, and the overall height with the scoop fully raised is 15 ft. 6 in..

Coupling for Fuel Pumps SAID to provide a surface which affords maximum resistance to wear, the Nylastic fuel-injection pump coupling disc now being produced by Howard Clayton-Wright, Ltd., Wellesbourne, Warwicks. is designed to overcome fatigue problems caused by pump pulsations.

These characteristics have been achieved by making use of the high abrasion resistance of Nylastic, coupled with the mechanical strength imparted by a metal shroud and inner metal ring. A minute amount of angular deflection occurs in the coupling during operation, providing a resilience which tends to damp out shock loading. A maximum of 0.05 in. parallel misalignment between the driving and the driven shafts is catered for.

Weatherstrip Gun AN application gun for use in conjunction with 3M Weatherstrip adhesive is now available from the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Ltd.. 3M House, Wigmore Street, London, W.I. The gun is intended to simplify the application of the preparation to rubber weatherstripping on vehicle doors. wind screens and so on.
