The South Wales Area of Associated Road Operators has scheduled a series of lec,tures and debates for the winter season, and these were inaugurated on November 15, when Mr. T. D. Corpe gave an addrgess on the principles of licensing. He dealt with decisions of the Appeal Tribunal in what are now well-known and oft-quoted cases. He stressed the need for licence holders to keep accurate accounts of the tonnage carried, the classes of goods dealt -Atli, their actual turnover and any amount paid for hiring. In the case of'B-licence holders, he pointed out the necessity of leading evidence to show places that had been visited up to the limits of their radius.

Fines -totalling £10, with 7s, 6d. costs, were imposed by the Liverpool stipendiary magistrate (Mr. Stuart Deacon), on a Liverpool haul'age con.tractor, 'who, he said, was liableto fines totalling over £200 and/or imprisonment for two years, with disqualification from driving for 12 mouths,

The defendant was Mr. Thomas Upton, Anglesea Street, Dingle, with a garage at Park Road. He was fined £1 and 7s. fid. costs for using a goods vehicle without a licence; discharged with a caution for, when breaking up a motor vehicle, failing to notify Liverpool City Council; fined £1 for using an Excise licence relating to one goods vehicle on another; fined£5 for using an identification mark relating to one vehicle on another; fined £1 for using a certificate of insurance relating to one vehicle on another, and fined £2 for operating an uninsured vehicle.

300 Cheetahs for Scotland. •

The Scottish Motor" Traction group of companies has recently ordered 300 'of the new Leyland Cheetah passenger chassis, which was introduced at the recently held Commercial Motor Show. The"LZ2 model has been chosen, as it enables" a 2-seater body -to be used; the weight of the complete bus, with "a -full complement of -passengers, is less than 7 tons. .

. The power Unit for these chassis will be the new six-cylincleind antechamber oil engine with a 3i-in. bore and a 54n. stroke.. The chassis will . differ only slightly from standard, the 25-gallon fuel tank, for instance, being nio.unted on the near side instead of :the Off side.

'The allocation of these buses will, we learn, be .as follows :—Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Edinburgh (60) ; W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd. (116) ; Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd. (100) ; Central S.M.T. Co., Ltd. (24).
