Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

3ERHAPS the most interesting ex, hibit on the Studebaker stand is the x-cylinder Model 75 chassis, which is Le latest production of the Studebaker Letory. This is a fine job, the power ait being the well-known six-cylinder tudebaker engine, which is of the sidealve type, with a bore and stroke of 7-8 ins. and 5 ins, respectively, giving L R.A.C. rating of 36 h.p. The crank'aft, an important point in a six-cyliner engine, is of massive design and is irried by four substantial bearings. lubrication is on the fully forced sysan, and the ignition is by coil, there eing a distributor mounted in an at-assible position at the forward end of se power unit. Built in unit with the ugine is' a four-forward-speed gearbox ith central control, from which an open ropeller shaft of large diameter conveys he drive to an intermediate universal 5int on a cross member ; thereafter, a econd propeller shaft is carried to the piral-bevel rear axle. The engine and earbox are supported on a heavy subrams. Pedal-operated four-wheel brakes A the servo-shoe type are fitted, and this ystem is supplemented by a hand-lever ontrolling a transmission brake.

The suspension system consists of our semi-elliptic springs and pneumatic yre-s. The steering gear is of the cam

and lever type, and the front wheels are carried by steering heads mounted on tapered -roller bearings, so that light steering control is assured. The equipment includes a speedometer, engine

thermometer, and oil-pressure gauge, grouped on a facia board, and the 27gallon tank at the rear carries a fuel gauge.

There are three other exhibits on the Studebaker stand, these being a 20-seater saloon coach, a 20-seater ali-weather coach, with a demountable top, and a

permanent back, and a 15-cwt. Quality delivery van. The last-named is fitted with a 27.3 h.p. six-cylinder Studebaker engine and four-wheel brakes, so that it is eminently suited for high-speed delivery work. The body space behind the driver's seat is 6 ft 5 ins., the inside width of the van being 4 ft. The body is fitted with side screens, which can be removed should bulky loads have to be earried. Easy loading is facilitated by the low height of the floor of the body.

The van has a very smart appearance and is attractively finished in lacquer with a wide belt of a contrasting colour, separated by a bright striping along the mouldings. Considerable attention to details is noticeable in the construction of the body ; the uprights, for example, are covered with padding to prevent noise or drumming, and all the joints are scientifically ironed and -bolted. The interior is primed and finished throughout with a coat of engine enamel as a protection against the absorption of moisture. Consequently, perishable goods can be-carried with the assurance that they will adequately be protected.

The chassis in question is fitted with a single-plate clutch, three-forwardspeed gearbox, and semi-floating spiral bevel rear axle.
