Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

passenger andload-carrying chassis are staged on this stand, the former being represented by a 20-seater low-loading coach, together with a 20seater low-load bus ; and the latter by a series of delivery vans.

Dealing first with the passenger chas

sis. The engine is a six-cylindered mnnobloc of 24 h.p., having cylinders of SO ram. bore, with a piston stroke of 120 mm.—giving a total capacity of 3,620 c.c. Seven bearings are provided for the crankshaft and camshaft, all being fed with oil under pressure from a submerged gear-type pump driven by .spiral gears from the camshaft Incorporated within the system is a readily detachable filter, which prevents any impurities, grit, ete., from reaching the

bearings. A detachable cylinder head carries vertically disposed overhead valves, operated by push-rods and rockers, and enclosed by an oil-tight

aluminium cover. This cover, incidentally, is readily removable to give access to the rocker gear for valve adjustment.

Aluminium pistons of special design to compensate for expansion are used in conjunction with Duralumin connecting rods, and as they are machined to a fine-weight tolerance high engine speeds can be obtained without endue vibration. Special attention has been paid to the mixture distribution in order to get satisfactory idling, conk bitted with power, at all throttle openings.

14Iounted unitwise with the engine is a twin dry-plate clutch contained within a bell housing the rear end of which forms the gearbox casing. Four speeds and a reverse are provided, all gears and shafts being carried on ball bearings. There is a positive lock on each of the ratios. With a wheelbase of 14 ft. 2 ins, and a track of 5 ft. 2 ins., the overall length of the vehicle is 20 ft.

The chassis details of the 30-cwt. van are somesvhat different, as a four-cylindered engine Is fitted, having a bore and stroke of 90 mm. and 120 mm. respectively (giving a capacity of 3,054 c.c.). Side-by-side valves are used in conjunction with a detachable head, whilst

the lubrication system is by pump t troughs formed in a plate which en closes the oil in the sump. The fine drive is by overhead worm, and th chassis is suspended on semi-ellipti springs fore and aft. Pressed-stee wheels are equipped with pneumath tyres of 32-in. by 6-in. section, all o which are interchangeable, As shown the van body has the following approxi mate internal dimensions: Length 9 ft. width 5 ft. 6 ins., height 5 ft. 10 ins.

The engine of the 25-cwt. van chassiF has a bore and stroke of 80 mm. and 120 mm., and is fitted with overhead valves operated by push-rods.

A pump and trough lubrication sys. tern is included in the specification, the drive being conveyed to the rear axle by means of a double-plate clutch and four-forward-speed gearbox mounted unitwise with the engine. The wheelbase of this model is 11 ft. 3 ins. and the track 4 ft. 8 ins.

Another exhibit is a 15-cwt. van fitted with a four-cylindered, side-valve engine having a bore and stroke of 90 mm. and 120 ram. respectively, which gives a total piston volume slightly in excess of 3 litres. Lubrication is by pump and trough in the engine, and by means of grease-gun to the chassis parts. A double dry-plate clutch and four-speed gearbox are mounted unitwise with the engine, the rear axle being driven by spiral spur gear.
