Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS usual. the Renault concern is showing a wide range of its commercial-vehicle products, there being altogether nine on view. Certain features are common throughout the Renault chassis, such as the use of a fourcylinder monobloc type of engine with side-by-side valves, and the fitting of four-wheel brakes, which, in the case of the heavier vehicles, are servo operated.

The most imposing vehicle on view is undoubtedly the 31-ton 32-seater standard bus, which is of the rigid-frame six-wheel type, and is driven by a 24.8 h.p. engine fitted with a four-forwardspeed gearbox. The bus is of the oneman-operated type, with a forward entrance. The wheelbase and track of this model are 14 ft. and 5 ft. 10 ins. respectively. Servo brakes are fitted to F40 all six wheels, and Michelin tyres are standardized, size 995 mm. by 155 mm.

Another interesting bus exhibited is a 20-seater with a low loading-line, which is attractively painted green with a gold line; this is also of the " payas-you-enter " type, with a near-side door at the front, operated by a handle from the driver's seat. There is also an emergency door at the back. The seats are arranged transversely in pairs to each side of a central gangway, with th exception of two longitudinal seats over the wheel arches. As in the case of the larger chassis four forward speeds are provided, and the engine of this model has an R.A.C. rating of 17.9 hp.

An interesting exhibit of another class is a 5-ton tipper mounted on a 24.8 h.p. four-cylinder Renault chassis; this chassis, incidentally, is fitted with servo-operated four-wheel brakes. The all-steel body is provided with hydraulic tipping gear and an automatic rear door, and its capacity is 160 cubic ft.

Another interesting exhibit is the horsebox on a 14-45 h.p. chassis, which provides accommodation for two animals, the side hinging downwards to form a convenient ramp, by means of which they enter the box. There is the usual provision for attendants at the back and the driver's cab is completely cut off from the body. A standard Renault 12-cwt. van is also exhibited, mounted on a 14 h.p. chassis, the price of this (as exhibited) being remarkably low—£199. In addition to these complete models, three stripped chassis are shown, these being the 14-45 h.p. and 17.9 h.p. (type PD.) chassis and the 21-ton low-loading chassis (type P.M).

The smallest is the 14-45 h.p. model, with a four-forward-speed gearbox, suit able for carrying 50-cwt. loads. This is fitted with 35-in. by 5-in. pneumatic tyres at the front and 34-in. by 7-in. tyre.s at the back, of Michelinmanufacture. A particularly interesting job is the 21-ton low-loading chassis, which is fitted with an engine rated at 24.8 h.p., and has single pneumatic tyres at the front and twin pneumatics at the rear. The third chassis exhibited is the 17.9 h.p. 2-ton type, which has a wheelbase of 12 ft. 5/ ins. • the tare weight is 1 ton 11/ cwt. The four-cylinder side-valve engine has a bore and stroke of 85 ram. and 140 mm. respectively. Items from the specification are : Fourwheel brakes, a four-forward-speed gearbox, pneumatic tyres and electric lighting and starting.
