Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NTOTED for the very fine and smooth roadperformance of the passenger vehicles, this exhibit should be of outstanding interest chiefly to passengertransportation specialists. Chief interest undoubtedly centres in the new model 50 h.p. Pullman passenger chassis which, with a six-cylindered engine of 81 mm. bore and 127 mm. stroke, develops 50 b.b.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. A balanced crankshaft and light reciprocating parts to the engine generally, combine to allow the power unit to revolve at high speeds without undue vibration. The inlet valves are located in the cylinder head and the exhaust valves lie alongside the cylinders, which provides a turbulent type of combustion head, avoiding " pinking " and increasing the periods between decarbonization.

A single-plate clutch and a four-forward-speed gearbox are mounted unitwise with the engine, the gears being operated by a central control. Fourwheel brakes of the internal-expanding type are operated by the pedal, and the hand lever controls internal-expanding shoes in the rear drums only.

The chassis dimensions are as follow :—Wheelbase, 14 ft. 7 ins.; mean track, 5 ft. 7 ins. ; overall length, 21 ft. 71 ins.; overall width, 6 ft. 10 ins.: whilst the length from the dash to the rear of the frame is 17 ft. 5 ins.

The chassis is designed primarily for passenger service, but it is also suitable for goods transport of a bulky nature within the guaranteed gross carrying capacity of 70 cwt., or with a net load of 55 cwt. Thus, as a 26-seater passenger vehicle, there is a 25-cwt. body allowance.

The 2-ton chassis is somewhat similar to the one already described, except that the wheelbase is 12 ft. 4 ins, and the track 4 ft. Si ins., providing a length of 13 ft. 41 ins, from the dash to the rear of the frame. The gross load capacity is 52 cwt. and the net load 2 tons.

F38 Another new model is the Pullman Junior chassis which, with a wheelbase of 11 ft. 1 in. and a track of 4 ft. 81 ins., provides ample capacity. for 16 passengers and 20-cwt. body allowance. The length from the dash to the rear of the frame of this model is 13 ft. 41•

A 50 h.p. Pullman saloon bus is shown with a seating capacity of 20 to 24 passengers. It has a door on the off side for the driver and two doors on the near side—one in the second bay and the other behind the rear axle. Semi-bucket seats with hinged armrests are next to the gangway, and all seats have double-sprung cushions and squabs upholstered in leather. The backs of the seats are covered with cloth. The price complete, as exhibited, is £1,210.

The other two exhibits are a 30-cwt. to 35-cwt. van (of which the interior body dimensions are—length 9 ft., width 5 ft., height 5 ft. 9 ins.) and a 15-cwt. boavan which, with a six-cylindered engine of,, 24.3 h.p., provides a loading space of approximately 93 eubic ft. The price of this model, as exhibited, is f 395.

An entirely new model 15-cwt. box van is also shown which, with a sixc3dindered engine of 31 ins, bore and

4 ins, stroke, costs £395 complete with a van body; the price of the chassis only is £350. Seven bearings are provided for the fully balanced crankshaft, and are fed by oil under pressure from a submerged pump.. The big-end bearings Of the conneeting rods obtain their supply through drilled passages in the crankshaft itself. The distribution drive to the auxiliaries is effected. entirely by chain.

A single-plate clutch and a threeforward speed gearbox are mounted unitwise with the engine, the drive being transmitted by an open propeller shaft to a spiral-bevel rear axle.

The braking system is very thoroughly carried out. Internal-expanding shoes, hydraulically operated, are applied to drums attached to all four wheels, whilst a parking brake, operated by a centrally disposed lever, applies a brake on the transmission. Semi-elliptic springs are fitted to both front and rear axles, the latter being underslung.

As exhibited, the vehicle is equipped with a steel-panelled box-van body with an enclosed cab. doors on each side being equipped with drop windows. Two fulllength doors are fitted at the rear of the body. The approximate inside dimensions are : length, 6 ft.; width, 3 ft. 10 ins.; height, 4 ft., which provides a capacity of 93 cub. ft.

Another van with a capacity for 35 cwt. is shown, being somewhat larger all round than the one already described. The length inside the body is 9 ft., the -width is 5 ft. and the height

5 ft. 9 ins., the complete vehicle as exhibited costing £515.
