Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN interesting Pagefield model on it this stand, which has only recently been introduced, is a 32-seater bus with nlow load-line, fitted with a six-cylintiered power unit having a bore and Sttoke of 95 mm. and 140 ram. respectiiely, the power output of which is h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m. This engines together with the radiator, is mounted on a sub-frame supported in the main frame at three points, and matters are so .arranged that after the removal of four bolts the sub-frame complete can be withdrawn forwards. This system has) obviously great advantages from the point of view of maintenance, and, indeed, an examination of the whole chassis goes to show that accessibility has been most carefully studied throughout.

• The transmission system consists of an independently mounted gearbox, notable for its sturdy construction and compactness, and an underslung worm drive to the rear axle. The gearbox, incidentally, can be dropped from the chassis without disturbing the ,body or even the floorboards. Four-wheel brakes are fitted in drunis of large diameter, with an independent adjustment for each shoe.

The only other vehicle shown on this stand is a six-wheeled tractor-trailer

'with a loading capacity of 6 tons to 8 tons; the trailer provides a large body space of 22 ft. 9 ins. by 7 ft. A special feature is the way in which the trailer portion can quickly be detached and supported by legs, so that the tractor can be driven away. Furthermore, this portion, can, if desired, be then -fitted with a separate front axle so as to eonvert it into an independent • fourwheeled trailer. In this way the uses to which the vehicle can be put are obviously extended, and it is passible to use one tractor chassis to deal with two or more trailer portions. The engine of the tractor unit is rated at 40 h.p., and the transmission includes a fourforward-speed gearbox and a wormdriven rear axle.

The hand-operated and foot-controlled brakes act on both tractor and trailer portions of the vehicle the latter being arranged on the Westinghouse plan for power operation. The hand lever is provided with the patented Pagefield arrangement in the gear, which allows for relative movements between 'the tractor and trailer portions. The brakes which operate on the trailer wheels can, by a special arrangement, be kept " on '.' when the tractor is detached, a feature which obviously has everything in it favour.;
