Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TIEW makers could possibly display _12 such a comprehensive exhibit as that to be found on the Karrier stand, which, on this occasion, is -even more interesting than at previous Shows.

One of the most attractive of the products shown, both from the technical and artistic points of view, is the new ED6/1-type rigid eix-wheeled, passenger chassis, which. is designed for double-deck bodies holding up to 72

people, and is show-finished, the frame being painted in cream and the components either polished or nickel-plated.

It will be remembered that we described this machine quite recently. It is an outstanding example of the progress made in the modern vehicle, incorporating, as it does, a six-cylindered engine designed by Ricardo and equipped with Burt-McCullum single. sleeve valves, a flywheel bolted between the halves of the crankshaft, and a particularly interesting system of lubrication, the oil from an eccentric-driven plunger pump being passed through an 1126 external cooling device with a rotor and thence back into an external supply tank.

Other features of the chassis include a gearbox with both the mainshaft and layshafts carried on three bearings, a cardan shaft with ball-centred, buffalohide joints, and a propeller shaft which has oil-tight metal universal joints into which oil is injected every timethe axle passes over a large inequality in the road.

Westinghouse air-pressure brakes are employed, and the same brakes can be mechanically operated when required.

There are two interconnected petrol tanks of large capacity mounted within the chassis frame, and either of these can be employed independently ; they are shielded from damage caused by stones, etc.

Chassis lubrication is effected by two special oil reservoirs with spring-forced plungers which _require pulling up only once a day.

The type VVL6/1 six-wheeled singledeck bas to seat 40 persons is a repeat order tor the Edinburgh Corporation Tramways. A notable feature of the design is that the rear entrance is of the recessed type, 2 ft. 8 ins, wide and without a door.

The Subsidy model six-wheeler is shown as a tilt van and is equipped with a patent gas-producer plant and the Burn patent winch gear. The fitting of the producer does not interfere in any way with the petrol installation, so that the vehicle can run on either fuel. This vehicle will carry 3 tons on roads or 2 tons across country.

A special tractor known as the KG has been designed for the 12-ton tractortrailer combination and the tractor is shown alone. It has a powerful engine of 82 b.h.p. with detachable head, and the final drive of the vehicle is by worm.

Municipal engineers particularly will be interested in the R.S.C. model road srweeper-collector and sprinkler. This is an appliance which is demonstrating its abilities as it saver of the rates in many parts of the world. -

The machine is, as its name implies, a combination model which can he driven on ordinary roads during the day

without causing obstruction to traffic or annoyance to pedestrians, and its inclusive cost of operation is said to approximate 2s, per track-mile swept.

Finally, there is a 2-ton lorry on the 0Y2 chassis, the body of which has been constructed by the purchasers of the chassis, the Huddersfield Industrial Society, Ltd., which for a number of years has operated this make of vehicle with every satisfaction.

The equipment includes 34-in: by 7-in. single pneumatic tyres all round.
