Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

APARTICULARLY interesting type of tractor is shown by this well-known French concern, and 5t embodies a system which is patented throughout the world. The tractor is a four-wheeled type with the rear wheels driven, but the arrangement is such that when hauling a trailer, which can be either two or four-wheeled, a portion of the trailer load can be transferred to the tractor, so that regulated adherence is obtained, whilst a flexible coupling enables the combination to be handled with ease when driven in narrow yards and other congested places. An efficient system of automatic braking on the tractor and trailer, or an either unit alone, adds to the security of the outfit.

The tractor weighs only I ton, and has an engine rated at but 15 h.p., but both it and the trailer are designed to run on pneumatic tyres. •

When using a four-wheeled trailer, the double jointing at the tractor coupling and the trailer front axle provides a very, flexible unit; for example, a tractor and trailer with a

total length of 24 ft. can be turned in a radius of 16 ft. Not only that, but the outfit is capable of turning in a thoroughfare 16 ft. wide, an undoubted advantage when being operated in narrow side streets of congested areas.

For soft ground, forest and desert tracks, special track treads are fitted to the driving wheels of the tractor, and special appliances can also be employed to enable trees and heavy lumber to be loaded. automatically. This should be particularly valuable in countries where. the lumber industry is of importance. Naturally, the motive unit can be employed with any number of trailers according to .the Work required and the length' of time taken in loading and unloading.

There are said to be many thousands of these tractors in daily use, some of them since 1920. Owing to the use of pure/mantic tyres ,the speed of the combination is comparatively high, and it is claimed that when the ttactor is returning to collect a 'freshly -loaded trailer it is capable of running at the same speed as an average touritie, ear.
