Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Fills stand is of chief interest to concerns engaged in transport work t connection with heavy, balky goods. 'he largest vehicle shown is a Leyland!arrimore six-wheeled tractor-trailer, • hich has .a capacity for carrying 12 ans. The platform area is 154 'Square L, the length being 22 ft., and the ridth 7 ft.; 'the body is carried on an rticulated form of chassis, solid tyres sing used all round. The front TheeIs are equipped with single tyros f 160 mm. section for 850 tam. rim Ltting. The centre •pair of wheels re fitted with twin tyres of the same imension, whilst for the rear wheels 40 ram. for 850 ram. twins are emhayed.

Semi-elliptic springs are used hroughout, the forward and the middlexis springs being shackled, whilst the ear springs slide on cam laces. Iraking is effected by an external-conracting pair of shoes on a . drum ttaehod to the transmission, whilst nternal-expanding shoes operate in Lrums fitted to the rear wheels.

Another vehicle of outstanding interat is is -a 10-ton, four-wheeled trailer, nitable for use in conjunction with Tractors. This chassis is suspended m semi-elliptic springs all round, vith an additional pair of inverted semi-elliptic springs attached to the drawbar mechanism. This latter feature, incidentally, is known as the Carrimore Adhesor, and forms the subject of a patent, the raison d'etre being to transfer a portion of the trailer weight on to the tractor foot, with the object of overcoming wheel .spin on the tractor. . The wheelbase of the trailer • employed in this outfit is 11 ft. 6 ins, and the track 5 ft. 7 ins„ the steering being, of course, of the turntable type. The braking is particalarly efficient, 18-in. drums being provided for' the frOnt wheels, these being internal-expanding shoes. The price of the trailer complete with tyres is-U05.

The attachment is adjustable by a hand wheel, which is supported in a bracket superimposed above the drawbar. Movement of this band wheel operates through a square-threaded screw which, in turn, varies the load on the inverted semi-elliptic (or cantilever) springs.

With a capacity of 6-,in cub. yds. a refuse-colleeting trailer forms an exhibit which should be of interest to

representatives of municipalities. At the front end of the chassis a screwdown castor wheel is fitted (adjustable for height) which enables the vehicle to be man-handled without the use of a tractor. The body is arranged to tip, the operation being carried out by a pair of cranked, handles operating on a cross-shaft at the front of the body. This cross-shaft operates a vertical screw through a pair of bevekgearS.
