ADDRESSING the annual meeting of the Scottish division of the Traders Road Transport Association in Glasgow on Tuesday, Mr. K. C. Turner, national president of the T.R.T.A., said that if there was a change of government the Association must be prepared to deal with nationalization of transport and
possible restrictions on C-licence operations.
In the discussion which followed a member suggested that the T.R.T.A. should take up with the Ministry of Transport the easing of the restriction which required a holding C-licence
operator to own 90 per cent of. the shares in a company whieh he might take over and which owned a C-licensed fleet. The reduction of this 90per.cent would make for more economic fleet working and no B licence would be required. The matter was becoming more urgent as more and more companies owning C-licence fleets were being taken over.
The question was a difficult one, said Mr. Turner. Any such action would meet with serious opposition by hauliers.
At this meeting Mr. E. C. Eggleton was elected divisional chairman and Mr. R. C. Torrance vice-chairrean.
