FORD has gone outside Europe for the first time to produce automatiye diesel engines in its world-wide production programme of the Cargo.

Cab panels, heater units, steering wheels and plastic radiator grills worth about i2in are to be exported to Brazil this year where the 11, 13 and 15 tonne Cargo models are now being built using North American chassis components.

A choice of two locally built six-cylinder units in naturally aspirated and turbocharged form, rated at 104 and 119kW (140 and 160hp) will be offered along with a Brazilian built 97kW (130hp) air cooled Deutz engine. For the United States and Canadian markets Cargo will be offered with the turbocharged version and with other options of up to 168kW (225hp) by late 1986.

These engines will also he available for Ford's Louisville L—, F—, and B— series medium and heavy truck ranges.
