a court for reduction of a driving ban once half the disqualification period has passed, the fine has been paid, and the licence endorsed.
More than 4.400 people were convicted of drink-driving in 2002, the latest year for which figures are available. However, mare than 2,800 of those convicted subsequently made application to the court under the Road Traffic Act for restoration of their driving licence. And while no official figures have been compiled for those who were successful in their appeal, court watchers suggest that more than 80% of petitioners are successful.
