SINCE British United Traction, Ltd., was formed three years ago, 40 per cent. of the :total _orders received have come from abroad. Trolleybuses of the 130 h.p. ETB.1 model now in production include 36 for Hobart Municipality; 31 for Dunedin City Corporation, 38 for Wellington City, Council, 30 for Launceston City Council, and four for the Copenhagen City Tramways.
As a safety precaution in case the poles should leave the wires, the trolleybuses for Dunedin have low-voltage powered coasting brakes fed through the batteries. The vehicles will be used on a route which includes 1-in-6.45 and l-in-7.45 gradients. In addition to. the powerful air brakes and the coking brake, a three-stage rheostatic brake is fitted.
In the home market, Nottingham Corporation has ordered 37 B.U.T. three-axled trolleybuses and Portsmouth Corporation 15 two-axled chassis, the latter to be fitted with Burlingham bodies. Newcastle-on-Tyne Corporation has ordered 50 chassis
