Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

JOHN VASEY, the British haulier held on drug smuggling charges in France for nearly a year without trial, will go to court on 4 February.

But Vasey's father, Ken, says he is still unclear whether the latest court appearance will be anything more than the four-monthly remand hearing needed to keep his son in jail.

"Getting information has been one of the main difficulties." he explains. "We got a fax from the French lawyer saying that the judge wanted to interrogate John. but I'm still not sure if this is just another remand hearing or not.

-John himself hasn't been told anything yet but then they don't usually say anything to him until the morning of the appearance.

Vasey was arrested on 28February last year accused of smuggling £2.5m worth of cannabis in the back of his truck (CM 20 March 2003). The French can detain him in Perpignan prison without charge for two years.
