Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CERTAIN EEC MEMBER countries are undermining competition in Belgium by transporting loads above the maximum permitted weights, the industry was told last week.

Speakino at the 61st Brussels Show, Rick Deems, general manager of Ford Belgium, called for the harmonisation of lorry weights throughout the EEC. Transport enterprises and the vehicle bodybuilding industry in Belgium is up against unfair competition, he said.

The weight limits are not being recognised in Belgium, and the excess loads are not practical, Mr Deems pointed out.

He asked for the Belgian Minister of Communications to set the maximum permitted weights throughout the EEC at a level that was economically more acceptable.
