Transport has decided to defer the consideration of possible amendments to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (C.M.R.) until the governments of Sweden and Switzerland have deposited their instruments of ratification of the Convention, It is probable that these two governments will proceed to ratification later -this year, after which proposed amendments submitted to the E.C.E. will be passed on to a special group of experts in accordance with the previous decision of the Inland Transport Committee, The United Kingdom has already suggested an amendment to Article 2, and revision of the Convention may also be required to take account of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on nuclear damage.

In the meantime. it is generally accepted that the British Government will ratify in the very near future, probably by means of a Private Member's Bill in the Commons.
