Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Unbelievable

I have been reading the newspapers and watching on the televtsion the antics of the Transport & General Workers Union trying to save the last of its lame ducks, the motor industry.

Being a haulage driver myself, I have had my dealings with the T&G and I can put my hand on my heart and say in the past 30 years, it has never gone out of its way to help the haulage industry in general.

It was positively crying as it watched its empires going one by one—first the mines, then the docks and finally the automotive industry—all gradually eroding around it. Let's be fair, it fought tooth and nail to try and save them.

But when, for the first time in the history of the haulage industry, owners and ownerdrivers stood in an unbelievable show of unity against the cost of fuel, whose voice was heard slagging us down? The good old T&G.

There is not much chance of the T&G doing much for us. Don't get me wrong, they are good with some firms and help those in need of certain things. But when it comes to our industry overall, it really missed the boat.

It should have really wooed us when the other industries collapsed. I have said previously, we can stick together for a cause worth fighting for, but as far as I'm concerned it's too late for the T&G. If it gets its act together it may be able to win over some of the younger drivers.
