A RUNAWAY truck has caused an estimated £250,000 worth of damage after it careered down a busy residential road and crashed into 17 parked cars and a house.
The incident happened in Reigate, Surrey, at 11.40am on 12 December when the DJB Haulage lorry travelled down a hill and collided with the vehicles before hitting the side of the house.
No injuries were reported, but a woman in the building narrowly escaped being hit by the HGV.
Inspector Richard Joyce, of Surrey Police, says: “I have seen this kind of thing before but only on the motorway. As for the inancial implications, it’s really hard to assess but it could be around £250,000 of damage.” VOSA says it has been asked to examine the vehicle by the police as part of their incident investigation.
David Buxton, director of DJB, says: “This has been a very regrettable incident. We are working closely with all the concerned parties to fully investigate the incident and to rectify any issues we are made aware of.”
