Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We’ve dropped London Mayor Boris Johnson from Power Players, and in his place is the man who must ensure the capital runs like clockwork during the Olympic Games: Ian Wainwright.

The good news is that he’s no numpty: he spent 18 years in logistics (with stints at Hays Logistics and DHL Tradeteam) before entering the public sector in 2005.

His challenges are many: early engagement with the largest operators and transport customers; getting messages across to the great unwashed of transport who won’t think about the effect of the Olympics until the day before the opening ceremony; and cajoling the 33 London boroughs into accepting night-time deliveries (surely that’s like herding cats?).

If Wainwright and his team do their job – and the transport industry listens and reacts to their guidance – the Olympics should be a success.
