If you are stuck for a Christmas present for Uncle Hector, what about the new Vatman M Sc II, pocket calculator. It has—and I quite — "liquid crystal display, total 10 digits, memory, polar/ rectangular conversion, plus full scientific notation, including trigs, logs, stats, exponential functions, degrees, radians, grads, hyp, etc." It comes in a cerise dorothy bag and is available at about £26.95p from all good undertakers.
There is, however, a slight snag. It has no reciprocating frequency-modulated, self energising, non-reactive, variable-mu, halogen-quartz whifflesnift, but perhaps Uncle Hector won't notice. Anyway, he still thinks quartz is two pints.
