Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Mad Hatter, Hatter, Unilever, Tea

The annual general meeting of the XCM Club — an informal alliance of ex-members of the staff of this journal — is more the Mad Hatter's Tea Party than the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. It is conducted during dinner at the Rugby Club in London and could well be mistaken for an international match at Twickenham.

Tony Wilding, who was technical editor until 1971 and is now with Fiat, was re-elected chairman this month. If he had objected, nobody could have heard him. Trevor Longcroft, who left the technical staff to join his ex-Commercial Motor colleague, Martin Hayes, at Leyland, is the noisy vicechairman. Linda Goldsworthy is now treasurer as well as secretary. She acquired the extra responsibility from my old friend Bill Cotton, who was technical editor until 1954 and is approaching the last year of a highly successful career with Unilever.

The enthusiasm of the old hands is remarkable. Andrew Seacombe, who has his own public relations business, came all the way from Preston to be present at the dinner meeting. Harry Roberts, CM's famous Midlands photographer, now retired, made the trip from Birmingham and was last seen breaking into a gallop to Euston at catch the 11 pm train. He is indestructible.
