ARRANGEMENTS have not yet been announced for the first sittings for hearing 1932 licence applications. Details will be published promptly in this journal.

Northern.

A SITTING has been arranged for

Tuesday next, at Newcastle, when a group of applications, mainly by independent concerns, will be disposed of. By far the largest number of these comprises applications for licences and backings for excursions. One or two express services will be considered, including that of United Automobile Ser vices, Ltd., between Darlington and Carlisle. Middlesbrough and Stockton Corporations will be heard in respect of municipal stage services between the two towns.

Yorkshire.

VISTERDAY'S sitting at Leeds is

being continued to-day in order to finish up some outstanding applications. The stage service of Mansfield and District Tramways, , Ltd., between Mansfield and Clay Cross, is up for consideration for a hacking, and several services of the Alfreton Motor Transport. Co., Ltd., are being dealt with, as well as one or two excursions by Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., Thomas Cook and Son, Ltd., and others.

West Midland.

SOIEN of the applications already an nounced for hearing at this week's Birmingham sitting have been rearranged. A fresh Birmingham sitting opens to-morrow, at which a number of applications by Messrs. Pass and Higgs, opposed by Birmingham Corporation and others, will be heard. At the same sitting applications for express services and excursions, made by independent operators, will meet opposition from the "Midland Red" and other important interests.

A sitting has been arranged in the same city to commence on December 29th, at which the hearing will continue of applications by independent operators, the more contentious cases being taken first. The sitting will continue to New Year's Eve, on which day a large batch of applications for excursions, etc., will be considered.

Eastern.

FOLLOWING the Cambridge sitting, no further arrangements have yet been announced, although quite a number of applications has just been listed. Southern.

A

SPECIAL request is being made by

the Southern Commissioners to all operators to complete their application forms for 1932 licences and backings and submit them as early as possible in the New Year. The aim of the Commissioners is to arrange the applications in groups, so that they cah deal with them in the most convenient order. Such an arrangement was not possible during 1931 and the work was rendered much more difficult as a consequence. It is realized that, in the case of licences and backings dated to expire on June 30th, this will involve a somewhat earlier application than might otherwise be necessary, but it is hoped that operators will face the slight inconvenience.

For licences and backings expiring on February 29th, renewal application§ should reach the Commissioners by January 4th, no matter what the class of service. Failure to comply in this respect may render existing licences ineffective after February 29th, necessitating the suspension of the services until the Commissioners can deal with fresh applications.

Applications in respect of seasonal express services, tours and excursions should be in by January 14th, and will probably be heard at Reading in February. A.pplication,s for express services should be in' by February 14th and will probably be heard at Winchester, in March and April. Applications for stage services should be in by March 31st, and will be heard at various places between June and November.

South-Eastern.

THE latest gazette announces no sitting to follow last week's Tunbridge Wells fixture, being mainly concerned with decisions that have been made on applications. Forthcoming arrangements will be promptly announced in these columns.
