The whole of the haulage industry should be grateful to those who took direct action in London to draw the Government's attention to the hopeless plight of our industry. We should be especially grateful to TransAction for the initiative they took to instigate the action.

What is important is that the whole industry unites behind the common cause of keeping the pressure on the Government to help our industry resolve the issue.

This must be the first time our protestations have received such media coverage and interest. It clearly demonstrates our ability to be heard.

If the attitude of our Transport Minister continues then so should the direct action. All this talk of increasing duty in the name of environmentalism is a load of poppycock—it is a cynical way of extracting more taxes. We must be the most heavily regulated and legally enforced state in the EU.

There has never been a time when we as a nation were so financially disadvantaged by our own Government. They need to wake up before it's too late, stop talking claptrap and tackle the issue before we all disappear.
