Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

defensive driving (CM 31 Aug-6 Sept) is rather like taking a sledge hammer to crack a walnut. While the aim of the programme is all very laudable you could get the same results if you fined a driver every time he had an accident that could be called his fault.

Better still, abolish the law governing seat belts, fa a sixinch spike to the centre of the steering wheel and you'd find a lot more drivers being defensive.
