Bruce MacCormack, Marketing Director of NCL since August .1974 is leaving the UK to return to Canada. He was formerly md of the Wincanton Group (Unigate) Ltd, and has also seen service with the Hertz Corporation. He is joined in his departure from NFC by Peter King the communications officer who takes up a post with another as yet undivulged company in January.

Making up a trio of state transport men who are heading back to private industry (all unconnected with transport) is Brian MacGillvray formerly md of Tankfreight Ltd, and more recently in the same position with Pickfords Intern atibnal HOldings Ltd, he has handed over the reins to Jim Morton and joined Rentokil as a senior executive.

The new DoE South Eastern regional controller (roads and transportation) is Philip Bays. He took up the appointment last week following the death of G. H. Oversby Powell.

Mr Bays joined the Ministry of Transport's South Eastern division in 1961 as a main grade engineer and in 1967 became a senior engineer in the office of the regional controller.

He has been involved with the strategic planning of trunk roads in London and the South of England, selection of priorities for highway schemes and the study of proposals for lorry routes.

Newly elected officers of the Sussex section of the Chartered Institute of Transport are : chairman, G. E. Gains, manager of Dor to Dor Carriers (Crawley) Ltd; treasurer, C. F. Bish, assistant traffic superintendent, Brighton Corporation; secretary, R. C. Philp, assist ant general manager, Dor to Dor Carriers (Brighton) Ltd.

Phil Watts has taken over responsibility for White and Co Ltd's warehousing and Storage operations at the company's •new compleX, in Winchester.

It is with regret that we record the death of Frank Wright, a Ramsey (Hunts) haulage contractor, who died suddenly at his home at the age of 63.

We also record with regret the death of Reg Redman, 62. Mr Redman was a pre-war conductor with London Transport who became a driver, then a route inspector and was finally promoted to depot inspector at North Kensington. He was an active member of the TGWU.

London Transport has announced that W. D. Hall has been appointed deputy chief architect.

Still on the buses, Stephen Trennery •has been appointed assistant traffic manager (planning) with Midland Red. Mr Trennery, 26, joined Midland Red after completing the NBC senior management training scheme and was promoted to divis;onal manager (north east) in March.

Conductor Edwin Elphinstone saved a bus and its passengers from disaster last year—and for his quick-thinking action he has been awarded the British Empire Medal.

The incident happened when the driver of the bus slumped unconscious across the wheel as the vehicle was passing through GIyncock, near Pontypridd. It mounted the kerb and careered towards a 50ft drop down a railway embankment.
