taxed at £5 a year and runs on gas oil. Is it illegal to drive it on the public highway unless diesel fuel is used?
ASpecial provisions are made in the
Vehicles (Excise) Act 1962' to allow dutyfree gas oil to be used for propelling mobile cranes which are used on public roads "only as cranes in connection with work being carried out on a site in the immediate vicinity or for the purpose of proceeding to and from a place where they are to be used as cranes provided that when so proceeding they neither carry nor haul any load other than is necessary for their propulsion or equipment".
