Iveco cab AI give the impression of being the most solid. For )(ample most of the plastic panels tend to creak when you push them.
Nevertheless, it's a very spacious cab, particularly in this extrahigh "Alto" version. There was space enough for the full set of luggage and personal belongings—which was the case in only four out of the seven cabs tested in Holland. The cab has some clever details, such as the small refrigerator on the engine tunnel which can also be used (carefully) as a step up to the bed. Also a clip-on fabric "organiser" beside the top bunk has pockets for bottles, washbags and books. The lower bunk is not so well equipped—though it has a reading light, which the upper bunk lacks.
In fact, the EuroStar's interior lighting is alto gether unimpressive. The main lights are dim, and lack any bunkside remote control. Neither is there a remote control for the radio or heater, or an alarm clock.
But the heater's main controls are fairly straightforward, and less complex than they look: just press PROG and dial in the temperature you want.
Of all the cabs tested, the Iveco's interior was the most difficult to clean (after being "dirtied" with talcum powder). The dashboard had several tiny rims and holes where dirt could not be removed.
Dick Kroon found the Iveco's mattress unsatisfactory. Our 15-stone tester slept like a log, but the SG22 foam is too soft and light—it will last around a year before becoming compressed and uncomfortable. The bunk is long enough but, at 69cm, just not wide enough.
Overall the EuroStar is comfortable, but it needs some detail modifications to be up with the best.
