helps lead to the conviction of the thieves who took two white Mercedes tractors during February.

The first disappeared between 22:00hrs on 10 February and 08:30hrs on 11 February from Bannerdown's Monkton Farleigh site. The Mercedes 17295, reg number G865 LVF, has engine number 42291120171651 and VIN 655 112 25457507. Sometime during the night of the 25-26 February thieves took a 16285 model from the same premises. Its reg is D305 GYG, engine number 44290620511650 and V1N 65511225457507.

Both times the thieves cut the locks off the alarmed premises' gates and left no evidence of how they broke into the trucks. "We suspect they must have taken one of them with a frontend lift," says company secretary Gordon Clark. "It had a flat battery and we couldn't start it." The thieves even left behind a newer Mercedes that was blocked by a trailer-despite having plenty of time to move it. Clark agrees the trucks are probably in boxes by now but says the reward is worth offering just to find out what happened. The company is hoping to replace both vehicles.

Thieves struck Philip C Smith Commercials two weeks ago when they broke into its Glasgow premises and stole a crane-fitted tipper.

The Ford Iveco tipper was fitted with an Atlas AK3006 crane and was taken from Smith's London Road site. It has a white cab with the company's name signwritien in red. The reg number is F767 .ISLI and the chassis number SBCCXXCCDOT10487.
