Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Lorry Driver of the Year competition in 1970 will change drastically if eliminating centres accept a recommendation of the national executive committee. The proposal is that the existing 10 classes be reduced to five, these classes being designed to take into account the re-introducing of the heavy goods vehicle driving licence in February 1970.

The light van would disappear from the competition and the first class be for vehicles over 3itons plated up to vehicles not exceeding 12.75 tons plated. The second class would be for vehicles exceeding 12.75 tons plated but not exceeding 16 tons plated: Class three for vehicles exceeding 16 tons plated.

The first three classes would be for rigid vehicles, classes four and five for articulated vehicles with the lower class for vehicles not exceeding 22 tons plated. It is proposed to discontinue the separate classes for boxes and tankers.

There are likely to be a number of additional LDoY eliminating centres in 1970. Already Norwich is established and Wolverhampton is likely to be confirmed shortly. The East Anglia Centre is particularly fortunate in having received a gift of 100 from a local R HA member to provide the principal award.

The Construction Industry Training Board has intimated that it will pay grants to firms registered with it who enter this year's competition. The grant will normally cover the cost of travel and necessary accommodation and half the cost of wages or salaries.

Mr. A. Havard, of National Freight Corporation, has been appointed senior national Steward for the 1969 final which takes place at Gamecock Barracks, Bramcote. near Nuneaton, on September 7.
