• Sheffield independent Yorkshire Terrier has strengthened its local service operation with the acquisition of a half-share of Glyn Pegg's Rotherham and District.
Pegg recently severed links with Midlands operator Stevensons of Uttoxeter, despite joint plans to expand Pegg's company.
The deal with YT which is now being finalised gives Rotherham the backing it needs to support a fleet expansion programme. Terrier gains the support of another independent company operating on a different network of tour routes in Sheffield, which will strengthen its challenge to the dominance of South Yorkshire Transport.
Rotherham already shares Terrier's Sheffield depot and buys in engineering support It is expanding its Routemaster fleet from seven to 12 and is launching a Doncaster route.
Terrier's Derbyshire subsidiary Silver Service is moving out of its Rowsley base because it is expensive and un suitable. Instead Silver Service will be stationed at Trent Buses' Matlock depot, and will buy in support services. Major engineering will be handled at Terrier's Sheffield base.
