NATIONAL FREIGHT Corporation chairman Robert Lawrence tops transport's roll of honour in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. He becomes a knight after 18 months in charge of NFC.

Sir Robert, who has been a board member since NFC's formation in 1969, is also a vice-chairman of British Rail. He will lead the Corporation into its new life when it is floated on the stock exchange after the Transport Bill becomes law.

Eastleigh Conservative MP David Price, a member of the House of Commons Select Committee on Transport, is also a knight.

CBs have been awarded to Department of Transport undersecretary John Sanderson, and former Royal Corps of Transport Maj-Gen F. J. Plaskett. Lucas Industries' group manufacturing director Albert Evetts has been awarded a CBE.

Former Department of Transport superintending engineer Frank Habgood, Road Safety Council for Northern Ireland president Ivan Montgomery, and Greater London Council director of planning and transportation Gordon Ridley get OBEs.

Royal Corps of Transport Maj W. J. Marshall and Maj R. Morgan, North Yorkshire County Council Highways and Transportation Department clerk of works Robert Best; Ulsterbus area manager William Dowds; Department of Transport supervising examiner (driving test) Ronald Greig, United Auto Durham area engineer James O'Cain, and Hants and Dorset wages officer Lois Parkin have received MBEs.

British Empire Medallists are Bristol bus driver S. Cocking, Thames Water Authority driver F. E. Crux; DTp draughtsman Miss B. Ingram; Rolls-Royce Motors safety officer H. M. Jones; Transport and General Workers Union convenor W. H. Morton; Bracknell Development Corporation head driver J. B. Reid; Radchem Centre, Amersham driver D. H. A. CoxRogers; Scammell Motors bodybuilder R. Weatherley; Roadline UK Birmingham platform controller G. H. Wilkins; HMSO driver D. F. Willey; and South Wales Electricity Board transport foreman K. Williams.

Army BEM recipients are Cpl J. H. Crickmay, Staff-Sgt D. A. Jones, Staff-Sgt G. H. Morgan, and Sgt R. Walton — all of the Royal Corps of Transport.
