• Inevitably in Lancashire, the Fleetwood round is overshadowed by the big entries at Liverpool and Manchester. Last Sunday's total of 39 drivers was about average for this centre, the biggest class being 0 with a dozen on the list. Against this there were three classes (Peterborough, El and F2) in each of which the only competitor had a drive-over and so automatically qualified for the national final.

Competing in class C. L, Griffiths (Paraffin Distribpting Co. Ltd.) BMC, registered 68 penalty points, the lowest of the day. His team mate R. Wall, BMC, was all out to put up a good showing in class B but collected a 400 plus debit on the garage test which effectively put their trio out of the reckoning. Best in the team section with extremely consistent performances were the Eric Bemrose Ltd. drivers. D. Garrigan (Bedford), first in class G.7with 91. J. Cooney (Bedford), first in Fl with 102 and J. Rowson (Leyland) third in D with 103.

Relatively few of the entrants here actually hail from Fleetwood. In fact they come from far and wide. A regular local supporter is Don Rickman (Dennis Norba) from Fleetwood Cleansing Dept., who has been a national finalist on four occasions. He was in the keenly contested class ID and a rather poor showing in the kerb test brought him down to fourth place. Of the tests generally, Width judging proved the easiest. The kerb test saw a number in difficulties.

Transfer of the test from the original site in Dock Road to Queen's Terrace, in front of Fleetwood Town Hall, has greatly improved matters for the spectators who, during lulls in the proceedings. can turn to watch the water-ski-ing and boating on the Wyre estuary.
