• A chronic shortage of good drivers has led driver agencies in the Midlands to launch recruitment campaigns in a bid to find extra staff.
Hinckley-based Newman Recruitment has reacted to the demand for drivers by distributing posters in transport cafes and contacting test centres.
The driver shortage is the result of improved economic activity and the need from January for drivers of packaged dangerous goods to have passed new examinations.
Since the spring there has also been a rapid upturn in the demand for qualified drivers in the tanker and packaged goods sectors.
