AMOVE to allow cheaper travel on public service vehicles for children, old age pensioners and the disabled is being made in the Commons by two women Labour M.P.s.

Miss Alice Bacon (Leeds, South East) and Mrs. Harriet Slater (Stoke, North) have drawn up a new clause to the Public Health Bill, which covers a wide range of local authority activities. They will try to have this clause incorporated in the measure when it is discussed in Standing Committee, and are expected to receive a good measure of support.

D UNNING costs jumped by nearly

£28,000, and incomes fell by £4,000, in the financial year ended in March, states a report by the borough treasurer on Preston Corporation Transport Department. During the year buses travelled 2,912,912 miles at a cost of £447,537, which works out at about 3s. 6d. per mile. Total income was £474,047.

36-FOOTER FOR EDINBURGH

EDINBURGH Corporation are to buy, 1-4 at a cost of £5,800, a 36-ft-tong, 8-ft, 24-in.-wide single-decker for experimental service. The vehicle is expected to be ready by the end of this year and its probable capacity will be 35 seated and 35 standing, with room for about 20 standing passengers on the rear platform. As on Continental vehicles of this type, the conductor will be seated at a desk.
