WHILE the West Midland Licensing

VI' Authority was hearing the application of Coventry Transport Committee for permission to increase fares, inhabitants of the city were having to make their way to work with much difficulty as a result of a decision by bus crews not to work overtime. This was taken last week-end, and Sunday services were cut by 21 per cent. On Monday morning services were depleted by 24 per cent.

Cuts in services will now add to the financial difficulties which caused the application for increased fares to lodged. Details of the proposed fare changes were given in "The Commercial Motor" on June 9, but at the hearing of the application on Monday it was stated that even if the permission—to raise fares were granted, the undertaking would still be likely to have a deficit at the end of March, 1951.

Originally the application had been made in April, but had been revised because of the Budget. Increased fuel Costs amOunted to an additional £42,000 a year.
