Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WAGE RISES of E5.50 on basic rates look like being agreed for most of the areas in which haulage drivers have still to settle this year.

Settlements of around this figure appear close in North-East England and, in North and Mid Wales, Transport and General Workers Union negotiators are recommending acceptance of a £5.50 increase from February 1. This would give drivers of 32.5tonners a new rate of £93.50 for 40 hours.

A 38 tonne rate of £97 is proposed, and lower grades' rates would go up by £5.50. Subsistence would rise by 50p to £11, the night rate would rise by 3p, and employers would pay for compulsory hgv test medicals for drivers aged over 60 and with over 10 years' service.

Sheffield drivers have accepted their offer of a 38tonne rate of £98, a 32.5 tonne rate of £95.40, a six per cent rise in other rates, and a El increase in subsistence to £11.
